This article covers importing majors to Majors. I recommend you use this functionality when you initially set up your application, then manually add majors moving forward.
Introduction
Application | Majors
You can import a list of majors using Microsoft Excel to create a .csv file. The majors in the list will import in alphabetical order, regardless of the order they are typed in the .csv file
Setting up/Creating the .CSV Import File
- Open Excel - Open Microsoft Excel
- Create Name Column - In column A1 type the heading Name. The file will not import without this heading in the correct column.
- Create Code Column - In column B1 type the heading Code. The file will not import without this heading in the correct column.
- Add Major Names - In column A, under the Name heading, type the major names. Major names are external labels and are what the applicant sees on the application. There are no character limits on the length of the major name and html friendly special characters are allowed.
-
Add Major Codes - In column B, under the Code heading, type the major codes. Codes are internal labels which populate to your download fields when you download application data. There are no character limits on the major code and html friendly special characters are allowed.
-
Save the File - Once all your majors appear (both major names and codes), click File
- Click Save as
- Type a Name for the file name
- Under Save as type, select CSV
- Click Save
Note: Only .csv files can be imported. The default excel file (.xls) cannot be imported
Importing CSV File into Majors
Now that your .csv major file is created,
- Navigate to Majors - Go to the Majors area of CrossConnect (Application | Majors)
-
Start the Import - Click the
Import button at the top of the screen
- Find Your File - Navigate to the location of your saved .csv majors file and select it
- Choose the File - Click Open
If you correctly set up your .csv file, the majors will import in alphabetical order. Any duplicate majors (exact same name and code) will not import
