Troubleshooting: Email Bouncebacks

SPF email bouncebacks -

If you notice a lot of bouncebacks to applicants, you may not have your SPF set up correctly. CFNC/CFI does not use DKIM, so it is imperative that your SPF is set up correctly.

Caveat:

We suggest consulting with your DNS provider before implementing any SPF changes.  The MXToolbox SPF Generator, https://mxtoolbox.com/SPFRecordGenerator.aspx, is one of many free tools available to help with SPF record formatting.

If you do not have a SPF on your external DNS, you will need to have one established.

Troubleshooting Steps:

1.  Check that your SPF record for CFNC is correct:

  1. Go to https://mxtoolbox.com/SuperTool.aspx#
  2. Click the drop down and select SPF Record Lookup

  6. You should see include:spf.cfi.org in the list.

  7. If not, you will need to work with your IT department or internet provider to get it added.

2.  Check the number of DNS lookups you have.

There is typically a limit of 10 DNS lookups.

3.  Check for other errors in your record.

You can find the latest specifications at the DMARC webpage
