Freshman Entrance Example

You want to create a rule called named XYZ Freshman Entrance Status with the description that this rule filters applicants who indicate on the application that they are freshman. This rule will be based on the field key for your entrance status field, “EntranceStatus” and the backend value for the answer option of “Freshman” to your entrance status field is “F”:

  1. Click the + New Rule button ()
  2. Type “XYZ Freshman Entrance Status” in the Name field (this is what populates on the backend in areas where you can apply a rule)
  3. Type “Applies to those that answer “freshman” to the entrance status question on the application” in the Description field
  4. Click the + Add Rule button ()
  5. Select the field key of “EntranceStatus” under “Field”
  6. Select the “Equals” option under “Operator”
  7. Type in the answer option backend code “F” under “Value”
  8. Click the Save button ()

Blank SSN Example

You want to create a rule called named XYZ Blank SSN, with the description that this rule filters applicants who left the Social Security number question blank. This rule will be based on the field key for your Social Security number field, “SSN”:

  1. Click the + New Rule button ()
  2. Type “XYZ Blank SSN” in the Name field (this is what you will see on the backend for the areas where you can apply a rule)
  3. Type “Applies to those who did not answer the Social Security number field” in the Description field
  4. Click the + Add Rule button ()
  5. Select the field key of “SSN” under “Field”
  6. Select the “Is Null” option under “Operator”
  7. Click the Save button ()

Zip Code Example

You want to create a rule called named XYZ Zip Code, with the description that makes it clear this rule filters applicants who have permanent addresses in the list of zip codes for which you do outreach. This rule will be based on the field key for your permanent address zip code field, “PermanentAddressZipCode”:

  1. Click the + New Rule button ()
  2. Type “XYZ Zip Code” in the Name field (this is what you will see on the backend for the areas where you can apply a rule)
  3. Type “Applies to those who have a permanent address zip code in 27510 or 27514 or 27516
  4. Click the + Add Rule button ()
  5. Select the field key of “PermanentAddressZipCode” under “Field”
  6. Select the “Contains” option under “Operator”
  7. Enter “27510” under “Value”
  8. Click the + Add Rule button ()
  9. Select the “Or” option under the “Join Operator”
  10. Select the field key of “PermanentAddressZipCode” under “Field”
  11. Select the “Contains” option under “Operator”
  12. Enter “27514” under “Value”
  13. Click the + Add Rule button ()
  14. Select the “Or” option under the “Join Operator”
  15. Select the field key of “PermanentAddressZipCode” under “Field”
  16. Select the “Contains” option under “Operator”
  17. Enter “27516” under “Value”
  18. Click the Save button ()

International & Major Example

You want to create a rule called named XYZ International Nursing, with the description that makes it clear this rule filters applicants who have permanent addresses country that is not the US and who select Nursing as their Major choice.  

This rule will be based on the field key for your permanent address country field, “PermanentAddressCountry” and the backend answer value for “United States of America” to your Permanent Address Country field is “US”. Also, your field key for your major code field, “Major1” and the major code for “Nursing” on your campus “NUR123”:

  1. Click the + New Rule button ()
  2. Type “XYZ International Nursing” in the Name field (this is what you will see on the backend for the areas where you can apply a rule)
  3. Type “Applies to those who have a permanent address country that is NOT the US and select Nursing as their major”
  4. Click the + Add Rule button ()
  5. Select the field key of “PermanentAddressCountry” under “Field”
  6. Select the “Does Not Equal” option under “Operator”
  7. Enter “US” under “Value”
  8. Click the + Add Rule button ()
  9. Select “And” option from under the “Join Operator”
  10. Select the field key of “Major1” under “Field”
  11. Select the “Equals” option under “Operator”
  12. Enter “NUR123” under “Value”
  13. Click the Save button ()
